God Is With Me, But I Need My Buddies Too

☁️ The First Fluff

Let me ask you something:

Have you ever felt lonely?
Of course, you have.

Unless you’re a unicorn with a built-in support squad, you’ve probably sat at home with instant noodles and a deep ache in your chest, thinking:

“It would be nice to have someone to eat this with.”

When the Sunday School Answer Isn’t Enough

Every time I brought up loneliness in church spaces, I’d get the same recycled lines:

“God is your best friend.”
“You’re never alone.”
“He is with you always.”

And yes—true.
He is Emmanuel. He never leaves. He upholds us.

“When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned.” – Isaiah 43:2
“I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

But sometimes? You still feel alone with your cup noodles and your spiral thoughts.
Because while God is always with us… so is the need for community.

Okay, But Is God Enough?

Before anyone cancels me—yes, God is enough.
But let’s not twist what that means.

Sometimes being “with us” means sending someone to laugh with, to grab lunch with, to show up with side dishes and gossip about fictional characters.

Even Jesus didn’t walk alone. He had friends. He shared meals. He let people in.

The Cockroach Incident That Broke My Theology

Picture this:
A wholesome night. Good friends. Church vibes.

Then—THUMP.

A roach. The size of my hand. Drops from my AC unit like the fifth plague.

Cue immediate chaos. My friends were unbothered.
They searched for five minutes… then left me alone. With the enemy.

I prayed. I quoted Genesis 1:24 with full conviction.
The roach stayed.

So what did I do?

I booked a literal flight home the next morning.
My mum flew back with me, laid out a honey trap, and personally made sure that demon met its end.

Was it dramatic? Yes.

Did I recover? Absolutely not.

But did I feel supported? 100%.

Because sometimes, you just need backup.

So Who Do You Turn To?

Sometimes God answers your prayers with His presence.
Other times, He sends your mum with bug spray and a carry-on.

Either way, we’re designed for community.

But it takes work:

  • People are busy.

  • Friendships are messy.

  • Vulnerability is hard.

So what do we do?

We show up.
We invest.
We build the friendships we crave.

And when no one else is available?
We lean on the One who always is.

☁️ The Final Fluff

Yes, God is with you.
No, that doesn’t mean you have to do life alone.

Find your people. Feed those friendships.
And if all else fails… have a backup pest control plan.

Because spiritual strength is great—but sometimes, you just need someone to kill the cockroach.
